Playing Golf to Promote Health

Golf is one of the most gentle and accessible sports that someone can be involved in. It does not require either a super human feat of strength or the endurance of an Olympic athlete for someone to have fun on the golf course. It is a great recreation for all ages and all fitness levels, and is truly one of the best games that you can play to promote your health and well being. No matter what your current level of fitness or health is, if you want to play the game of golf, there really is nothing stopping you but yourself.

Golf can be a very gentle game and is very suitable for the more unfit or mature player. There is no body contact and you don’t even have to run around. You can simply walk around the course and soak up the sun, enjoying the many benefits of spending a day out doors doing exercise. Even if you have a disability or are unable to walk around the whole course for whatever reason, you can still enjoy a round of golf. Most golf courses have golf buggies that you can hire, or even caddies who will do all of the hard work dragging your golf trolleys around for you.

It is not uncommon to see golf professionals well into their 50’s, still on the touring circuit and still making lots of money whacking their Taylor Made balls around the course. There are not many other sports where this is the case, and in some cases you are even considered to be past your prime in your 30’s. So if you fit into the mature category, then golf is probably the best sport to get you back into your finest and fittest form.

Golf is also ideal for the promotion of health because it can be taken as slow and steadily as you want at the beginning of your involvement. You don’t have to play all 18 holes if you don’t want to, and you can play the game at a leisurely and relaxing pace if that is what works for you.

Many people play golf as a way to improve their mental and emotional health as well. It is a very meditative game and can definitely have benefits similar to those of an active physical meditation routine. It seems to lead to a quietness of mind and can have good effects on a persons focus and concentration levels both on the course and off. Even just spending time in an environment that is both natural and organised can give someone a more relaxed outlook on life.

Golf has the potential to help a lot of people in their everyday lives. It can be played by almost everyone if they give it a chance, and can help people to have both a healthier physical and mental constitution.
